Look Up
Look Up is a portrait of space and place–it is a recollective illustration of growing up in Montana. Time permeates the very essence of this project. Buildings are older, people have grown or moved away, and the only thing that truly seems to stay the same is the land that backdrops the images that linger in my mind. The nature of this project dances with the boundaries of what truth looks like when we let our imagination run with it. Memory is malleable. Time is recoverable. Ghost stories and dreams linger in the hallways, and I wonder which ones are my truths. The mountains are the ones that I grew up alongside and the lakes are the ones that I would swim in to quiet my mind. The people that appear in a few of the images are family, and the animals too. The stars that I am telling you to look up at are the ones I learned how to love under. All of them together become this portrait of Montana–how I remember it and how I imagine it when I am no longer there.
